Elite Divisions
Age as at 25 August 2023 (National Championship Date) applies to this tournament for Elite Divisions.

The Elite Divisions will commence at 8:30am on Sunday 21 May 2023
Refund Policy
In the event the athlete can no longer complete, the following refund will apply:
- 70% - 8 days or more prior to the tournament date;
- 50% - 7 days or more prior to the tournament date;
- Nil refund if 3 days prior to the tournament.
Rules for Selection of Divisions:
Definition of an elite athlete for the purposes of VKL:
An elite athlete is someone who has been a member of the Victorian team in either of the prvious two years.
Please note this does not include reserves.
- Any athlete who meets the above criteria must ONLY enter the Elite Divisions. However, this only applies to the discipline in which they have
achieved selection eg if a competitor is a member of the State Team in Kata but not in Kumite, they are permitted to enter the Development Divisions.
- Athletes who do not meet the defnition of an elite athlete my enter the Development Divisions. These athletes may also choose to enter the Elite Divisions,
an athlete who has entered both divisions and places 1st or 2nd in the Elite Division cannot participate in the Development Divisions in the future.
REGARDING INJURY AND AMBULANCE TRAVEL - IMPORTANT
If at anytime an ambulance is required by an athlete during the tournament, it is at the expense of the athlete and not Kobe Osaka Championships.
Equipment Requirements for Elite Divisions:
- All athletes entered into the Elite Divisions are to provide ALL their own equipment as per AKF/WKF rules;
- WKF facemask or AKF head protectors are compulsory fort children's divisions;
- Body protectors are compulsory for all competitors including seniors;
- Blue and Red belts will he used throughout the Championships; and
- If a contestant comes into the area inappropriately dressed they will ge allowed one minute to remedy matters, otherwise be disqualified.
Elite Kata Divisions:
13 years and under: ROUND 1 and 2 Shitei kata, TOKUI/FREE kata ROUND 3 and after;
13 years and under; Regardless of number of rounds, the FINAL round is always TOKUI-FREE;
13 years and under will perform simultaneously - all rounds except medal rounds;
13 years and under can repeat but not consecutively i.e A-B-A-B; and
14 years and above: AKF Rules - TOKUI-FREE kata NO repeats.
Kumite Divisions:
13 years and under 1.5 minutes; 14 years and over 2 minutes; Senior Men's Divisions 3 minutes.
All Senior Competitors 45 years and over must supply a medical clearance (issued within the last 2 weeks) of the competition.
Please note: some events may be combined due to insufficient numbers.
Victorian State Team Selection
All athletes seeking selection in the Victorian State Team MUST have participated in the Victorian State Championships the same year. Athletes to compete at the National Championships are encouraged to enter the Elite Divisions. Points accumulated over the four VKL tournaments will be used in process of State Team selection. PLEASE NOTE IT IS NOT COMPULSORY TO ENTER THE VKL FOR SELECTION INTO THE VICTORIAN TEAM.
Coaches Requirements
Coaches are to wear full tracksuits with footwear (no thongs/sandals) while coaching at VKL tournaments.
They are not required to have NCAS qualifications or coach's passes/photo id.
ONLINE Payment Instructions
Instructions for payment by paypal
- After registering your athletes, please click on the Paypal logo underneath the amount owing;
- This will open up Paypal and will show a "0" amount;
- Enter the amount owing and click "update";
- The total amount now should show what you owe KOA;
- Log into Paypal as usual on the right hand side and follow the normal steps for payment with Paypal;
- Please use "message to sender" link and advise which competitor the payment is for. It becomes very hard when trying to reconcile payments.
- Athletes will appear on a waiting list until payment has been received, once notification of payment is receuved by KOA, the athlete will be moved from the waitlist into the competition; and
